Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Welcome to this butterfly...

I love people. I love life...even when it's hard. I love God, and I trust Him. I hope somehow I get to impact you in a positive way through my music.
I am always praying and rooting for each one of you, and I remain grateful for your support.

That time I played an original song at the Bluebird Cafe, Nashville, TN

If you know me, you know I love to be behind the scenes. But I challenged myself to be front and center...

July 17, 2023 was unforgettable! I sang "Dear Monster." The artist who followed me said, "It's one thing to get up here and sing about heartache - it's a whole other level to do what she just did."

I was complimented by women who approached me in the parking lot after the show and said, "Thank you." The staff told me, "Your song was amazing."

I am grateful to God for treasured memories. This night will always be one.

I am a crime survivor. I hope to amplify voices of survivors. Lyrics echo, "I wake and I am free..."

WATCH

ONWARD, arise with love is a message of hurt, grit, and hope. The music video depicts the struggle in the life of a young black woman and captures racially-fueled harm inflicted on her brother, with whom she shares a close relationship. The video highlights moments in her life that cause her undue pain and are the product of the color of her skin versus her talent, intelligence, grace, and strength. It is a story of resilience and overcoming. It is a story of forward movement against all odds and inspires continued work for racial equality, equity, and justice.

The new release by Lepidoptera®. "Footsteps" is an original composition by Jennifer Gutierrez. The song was written for a friend who lost her son in tragic, noncombat circumstances in the military. This release honors Caleb "Smitty" Smither (April 13, 2000 to January 21, 2020) and all who have lost their lives serving in the armed forces. You will meet Caleb at the end of the video.

The song is also an anthem for those who have lost loved ones amid war, negligence, apathy, or the unknown. It is also hope of joyous reunification one day. And for now...we listen. Can you hear the footsteps?

Meet Caleb "Smitty" Smither.
He joined the Army and was dead in less than 8 months after hitting his head while working on base as a 91-lima track line mechanic. He died alone in this room at Fort Bragg after visiting Womack Army Medical Center for symptoms characteristic of a head injury. He was given headache and nausea medications. No one checked on him for over 6 days until he was found in the 5th stage of decomposition on January 21, 2020. He left his last voicemail on January 13, 2020. He sent his last text January 15, 2020. He used his key card to his room for the last time on January 15, 2020. Army personnel said they checked on him 2 days before he was found putrefied and mummified. They did not.

The 19-year-old had written goals upon enlistment. He wrote, "To learn and continue to become a better soldier." After being awarded the Leadership and Iron Soldier Awards during 91L Construction Equipment Repair School and earning his jump wings at Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, he never had further opportunity to do this.

Meet Heather Baker, his mother. She sought justice for Caleb and for the many service members who have suffered noncombat fatalities, and she achieved military reform to protect service members on their own territory.

"Footsteps (Caleb's Song)" was written in remembrance of Caleb, to honor of the vast number of service members who have lost lives amid noncombat tragedies, and to amplify the activism and advocacy of Heather Baker.

THE ANTHEM

The new original song by Lepidoptera® was written by Jennifer Gutierrez (music/lyrics) and Mark Murray (music). It is a battle cry amid adversity.

Dr. Jennifer Gutierrez is a medical speech-language pathologist, specializing in palliative care (end-of-life care). She witnesses trauma and sadness. She desired to write a song to inspire her patients and anyone experiencing the heaviness of the enemy's attacks. (One of her patients chooses to listen to this song on repeat while undergoing chemotherapy.)

There are times in life when we decide if we lose faith...or embrace it tightly. Is this song aggressive? Yes! Every battle should be. The production uses a fusion of genres to deliver a reminder that Yeshua will prevail amid fear, doubt, oppression, addiction, depression, and other adversaries. Even on the darkest of days, we must remember that we do NOT fight alone!

Find peace knowing that you are stronger than you think - because of God. The enemy will come. He will not win.

"Sing...you are worthy.
Sing...of life-deserving.
Sing...of grace unfolding.
He won't win my Ghost is Holy."

(Suggested reading while reflecting on the message of this song: Psalm 60:11, Deuteronomy 31:6, Philippians 4:13, Luke 10:19, John 10:10, Joshua 1:9, Psalm 27:1)

THE SONG I WROTE FOR MY SORORITY THAT BECAME A MEANINGFUL PART OF RECRUITMENT

This historical piece was written by Jennifer Gutierrez (music/lyrics).

I composed this tune in 1991 for my friends and sisters in Chi Omega Fraternity, Rho Epsilon at Texas Christian University. I offer gratitude to the transcriptionist who originally put my melody to paper so the song could live on. This is the simple, raw demo I cut for ChiO sisters who asked for a copy. The simplicity is lovely. Imagine a group of best friends celebrating bid day…then graduation…then weddings…then children — victories and valleys. Never forgetting their past. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 “𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆” 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒌𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 – 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔…𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 “𝑪𝒉𝒊 𝑶𝒎𝒆𝒈𝒂 𝑫𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝑬𝒏𝒅.” Thank you for allowing me to share this journey. Thank you to Chi Omega for recognizing the song as a part of your history. Sincerely, Jen

Chi Omega is an "intergenerational women’s organization" that states its founding purposes as: "friendship, personal integrity, service to others, academic excellence and intellectual pursuits, community and campus involvement and personal and career development.” The white carnation is the official flower, while the skull and crossbones are the official symbol. The official colors are cardinal and straw. Chi Omega has two official jewels, the pearl and the diamond. The owl serves as the sorority's official mascot, symbolizing wisdom. ✍️ 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑡: ℎ𝑡𝑡𝑝𝑠://𝑒𝑛.𝑤𝑖𝑘𝑖𝑝𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑎.𝑜𝑟𝑔/𝑤𝑖𝑘𝑖/𝐶ℎ𝑖_𝑂𝑚𝑒𝑔𝑎

MORE MUSIC!

This original song by Lepidoptera® was written by Jennifer Gutierrez (music/lyrics).

I can’t wait for you to hear my new song! Written for my best friend, to celebrate her marriage…the song has become my personal anthem for light that has pierced darkness in my life. He redeems. He forgives. He loves. He saves. He is my Hero. And it is only through Him that I can rise from any valley.
